MAV 17 Conference a Success

National Program Manager, Damian Nicholson presented a PD session at the Maths Association of Victoria MAV 17 conference to finish out a busy and productive 2017 calendar.

The theme of the conference was, ‘Achieving excellence in M.A.T.H.S’, and that is certainly what was witnessed at MAV 17, with over 1500 passionate educators coming together to help each other learn and grow.

It was great to see so many mathematics teachers and administrators who were willing to learn about and embrace the use of financial literacy as a context for learning in many areas of the mathematics syllabus.

Participants had an opportunity to explore and engage with our Operation Financial Literacy (OFL), Financial Literacy in Practice (FLIP) and ESSI Money Game resources, and came up with some great ideas for embedding these into various learning areas of their school, and their own classrooms. The group was incredibly enthusiastic and willing to share their thoughts and ideas with each other.

By the end of the session everyone had registered for access to our free resources and were eagerly chatting about how these could be used in their schools!
Special congratulations go to the winners of the MAV 17 financial literacy quiz:

First place: Robyn Waight. Robyn received a printed and bound copy of the full OFL resource and a $25 gift card.

Runners up: Luke Corden and Maria Fin. Luke and Maria each received printed copies of the ‘Money Magic’ FLIP and a $25 gift card.

Winners are grinners! Luke, Robyn and Maria with their prizes from the MAV 17 financial literacy quiz.
