The Queensland Association of Maths Teachers recently hosted its 2018 Annual Conference, ‘Game On!’ at Brisbane State High School.
You know it’s going to be a great conference when the first attendee gives up part of their lunch break to come to the Financial Basics Foundation session early, and the first thing they say is, “I’ve been looking forward to this session so much, I’m so excited!”. Teachers were given the opportunity to play ESSI Money, focussing on the application of ‘Real Life’ financial literacy and capability elements that the game provides. They also had the opportunity to get hands-on with a variety of FBF lesson materials.
The session culminated in a final quiz, with hard copies of FBF materials awarded to the placegetters. The most sought after prize was the binder of Operation Financial Literacy materials, awarded to Ben from Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie).
Thanks to QAMT for inviting Financial Basics Foundation to attend and present at this conference. The organisation of the event was outstanding, and it was wonderful to meet so many happy, smiling Queensland teachers - all of whom were giving up holiday time to attend.
We look forward to seeing you next year!
