Financial Basics Community Foundation Receives $110,000 Grant from MetLife Foundation to Boost Financial Literacy for Young Australians

The Financial Basics Community Foundation (FBCF) is thrilled to announce it has received a $110,000 USD grant from MetLife Foundation to develop and launch a major new initiative, the Financial Literacy Life Skills Resources Project.

Designed to address the urgent needs of young Australians with low literacy and numeracy skills, this project will deliver practical, inclusive, and accessible financial education resources that help bridge the gap in learning – and empower young people to take control of their financial futures.

“We know that a lack of financial literacy can significantly impact a young person’s wellbeing,” said Katrina Samios, CEO of Financial Basics Foundation (FBF). “This grant from MetLife Foundation allows us to meet young people where they are and provide the tools they need to build secure, independent lives.”

The Financial Literacy Life Skills Resources Project will build on FBF’s established and trusted educational materials, adapting them for schools and community organisations that work with vulnerable youth. The project will begin with a pilot phase to refine content, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of learners.

This generous support from MetLife Foundation reflects its global commitment to inclusive economic mobility and improved financial health for people with low incomes.

“We’re delighted that MetLife Foundation is supporting the great work of FBCF in building the financial confidence of young Australians,” said Richard Nunn, CEO of MetLife Australia.
“Financial literacy is a critical life skill, and this initiative will uplift the financial wellbeing of young people across the country.”

FBCF is grateful for this partnership and looks forward to delivering meaningful impact for the young people who need it most.
